South Dakota news reminds me of a glacier

After a quick check of my usual sources, I am almost at a loss for South Dakota happenings.  Sure, Pierre wants us to know about road safety, but that really doesn’t allow me to unchain my snark.  The lone beacon of news that really caught my eye was from Yankton’s P & D, and that just leads to a joke about corrupt elections, and that’s a subject I don’t want to think about.

So, let’s talk about blogs, and not mine this time.  I thought I’d share some of my recent favorites.

Griper Blade starts my day off right every weekday by reminding me why I shouldn’t be.  Whether you agree with him or not, he makes you think.  Democrats should enjoy reading, and Republicans will enjoy arguing with him, provided they don’t get too angry.

Dakota Today I found via my niece, and we’ll leave it at that.  I don’t read it verbatim every day like Griper Blade, but I check it frequently.  I’m sure there are other great South Dakota blogs out there, and I intend to start reading more of them in the coming months.

ESPN’s Rob Neyer wouldn’t shut up about Cardboard Gods, and while skeptical I checked it off and on for a few weeks.  After a few entries about Kevin Millar and Woodie Fryman, I am officially hooked.  Knowing the players on the cards helps a little, but anyone can read what Josh Wilker pulls out of the images and identify on some level.  Well, someone in my age group anyway.

A new one that’s popped up is called Comic Fencing.  The premise is that once a week, a webcomic is picked, and then a group of reviewers each give their take on whether or not it’s worth checking out.  As someone who reads a lot of webcomics but is always looking for more, it’s handy.  Plus, I find it interesting to read what others think about webcomics I like (so far they’ve reviewed two that I read often: We the Robots and Geeks Next Door).

Finally, do I need to mention I Can Has Cheezburger?  I think by now everyone must love the LOLCAT.  If you’re sick of cats but don’t like dogs, try Fail Dogs.  If you don’t like animals in your funny, you can check LOLBOTS (from the mind behind Diesel Sweeties) but they don’t update often.

I think I’m not allowed to close out one of these without my own linking.  Cliffhanger Theater ends part three this week, and I’m getting excited for part four.  When I started the project, I had high hopes that part three would be the highlight.  Once I started writing it, it turned out to be a bit of a downer.  I was having some trouble staying motivated, but today I figured out more of part four, and the rest of part three almost wrote itself.  Farmington 30 has a new post, but the wife thinks it is on the sad side.  You’ve been warned.  Fanwitch has been revised yet again as a new blog called Verbiage Dump.  Along with posting things that I don’t want to post here, it will also have my weekly MySpace blog, in case you have a court order keeping you from checking MySpace or some other such nonsense.  If there is such a thing and the person reading this has that, no offense.

I hope this week finds you well.  Next week I might experiment with a video blog.  I fear I am not hip enough to use the term “vlog”.
